2017 Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon

2017 Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting note: notes of blackberry, blueberry cobbler, cassis, woodsmoke, licorice pastille, and meadow flowers are very inviting. The palate is taut and structured, featuring dark red and black fruits, great minerality, and lively acidity. The finish on this wine is very long and focused, with lingering floral and light oak elements. This wine will reward short term cellaring, and last for a decade plus in the cellar.

Blend: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot 5% Cabernet Franc,

Vineyards: 46% Discovery Cabernet, 42% Champoux Cabernet, 7% Klipsun Merlot, 5% Champoux Cabernet Franc
Aging: 80% New French Oak

95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck

Deep purple/plum-colored, with notes of tobacco leaf, damp earth, chocolate, and assorted darker fruits, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a rounded, supple texture, polished tannins, and a great finish. It’s beautifully done and shows the more classic, elegant style of the vintage nicely. (04.15.20)

94 Points - Wine Spectator

Polished and finely detailed, this red is impressive, featuring rich black cherry, coffee bean and stony mineral flavors that build tension toward fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2029. (Tim Fish | Spring 2020)

94 Point (Cellar Selection) - Wine Enthusiast

The aromas are vibrant, with notes of roasted coffee bean, dark raspberry, scorched earth, barrel spice, leaf and black currant, showing plenty of complexity and nuance. The flavors bring a sense of elegance, detail and depth, along with a creamy feel. Sneaky firm tannins back
it up. A long list of superlatives could describe it. Just a baby now. It requires time in the cellar to grow up. But what a future it promises. Best from 2027-2037, but it seems near eternal. (Sean Sullivan June 2020)

93 Points - Vinous

Bright, dark red-ruby. Nose dominated by cassis and licorice. Sweet, savory Cabernet; at once creamy and tightly wound, showing serious mineral lift to its very dark flavors of crème de cassis and bitter chocolate. Finishes quite firm but not hard. This deep, layered wine will not be released until next spring. (December 2019)
