Classic Horse Heaven Hills nose of blueberry, crème de cassis, crushed violets, fresh herbs, and deep, dark Valrhona chocolate notes. The mouth feel is palate-staining and luxurious, with blueberry reduction, black currants, creamy cocoa tones, minerals, and fresh wildflowers. This looks to develop into another classic Cabernet from the Horse Heavens that will be drinking nicely young, but can last a couple of decades.
Blend: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc
Vineyard: 47% Champoux, 46% Discovery, 7% Klipsun
Aging: 80% New French Oak
"The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Heaven Hills is a textbook wine from winemaker Chris Peterson and has beautiful purity in its black fruits, scorched earth, gravelly minerality and Graves-like (I wrote “Haut-Brion” in my notes) smoky fireplace aromas and flavors. Beautifully concentrated, medium to full-bodied, and textured, it’s going to show nicely in its youth yet evolve for 2-3 decades."

"The 2017 Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon has splashes of 7% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc added in to round out the blend. The nose is lush with a clean expression that will age beautifully for the next decade. The wine has a blackberry and red cherry core, with dusty plum and soft savory notes that add to the complexity. The mouthfeel is still youthful and currently showing well, with a tight mineral expression and approachable tannins, ending with a long, spicy finish. The wine will be ready a touch sooner than the 2016s and will bring pleasure."
